Hi, I'm rebuilding a steering box for a US MF 35 and I don't know where these two parts go. The brass one is an eyelet and the disc is a retainer. I know they go under the steering worm shaft and above the lower bearing, but how are they assembled? There is a small hole on the bottom of the worm shaft but the eyelet doesn't fit in there.
Also, I was reading the I&T shop manual and it says that to check the steering shaft preload you attach a spring scale to the steering wheel and that it should take 1/2 lb to 1 1/2 lbs to turn the steering wheel. What kind of spring scale do I need to use and how do I use it?
Thanks!
