The service manual for my old '84 L275 kubota only tells how to check when the clutch is out. I'm also having an oil test done; just trying to determine the condition of the tractor, so I can decide whether to keep it and spend a little money fixing details, (New water pump, wiring harness, seat,...) or sell it.

As long as you have the proper freeplay and the clutch holds the torque of the engine, it should be ok. you will notice slippage in the upper gears long before it will slip in the lower gears. For the pto, the same applies.
