repaired the swing cylinders this weekend and replaced the seals. Took several hours to get them out cleaned and replace the seal. Most difficult part was to get the links off the chain that the cylinders were connected to. Also stripped several treads on the tie rods and had to weld on the nut at the end. Also could only repalce one of the rod seal with the second one left in place. The second rod seal is located inside the end housing in an inside cavity. Could not figure out how to get the new one in there and was afraid of damaging the seal. Seems it works fine without a leak so all ended well.

However still curious how to replace that seal. Any advice out there??

to replace the seal in the piston , use a pick tool ( end of it is u-shaped with a sharp point ) grab the seal and pull it out , be careful to not damage the piston . take the new seal in your hand and squeeze it together in the middle , then bend it together in a tight u-shape and put it in . sometimes they are very stiff , if so you can soften the seal up with hot tap water to make it pliable , hope that helps ,
