I need to paint a small dozer, and when I went to teh john deere store, they wanted a arm and a leg for yellow industrial paint in a gallon can.

tractor supply didn't have industrial yellow.

Can you guys recommend a good supply for paint?

What about a NAPA auto parts store. I think they have it, or can get it. Engish Color is a supplier of body shops/car dealers around here, maybe they have one near you.

Any automotive paint store should be able to match the color you want

MSC Industrial Supply Co. is where I get some of my industrial paint. You might also try checking your local yellow pages for paint suppliers. The kind that sell paint to body shops. Around my area another place to buy paint is at auto parts stores. Non chain store type auto parts stores that is.

I buy implements paint in TSC - seems to be pretty good, but only the time will tell.

I always get my paint at TSC.. if they don't have it, ask the store manager 'when' it will be in. If they don't give you a good answer.. go over their head and write a letter to corporate. A regional manager will be contacting you shortly... I've had to do that a few times.. usually due to an unresponsive manager... the regional manager seems to be able to 'light a fire' pretty good though..

Agri-Supply sells Cat yellow in gallons and the appropriate hardener. I used it on some panels for my dozer and it worked quite well. It's not listed in the seasonal November catalog but the on-line store does have it.

Mornin Andrew,
I have also bought paint from Valu-Bilt Tractor, a gallon of enamel is about $25.00 and fairly good quality. It will need to be thinned slightly and you can also add hardener for a lasting job. I use a Porter Cable HVLP gun and it does a descent job.

The last job was my 49 Super A.

One thing to consider. That paint from John Deere is very high quality paint. I've used JD "O.E.M." paint on several occasions. It's good stuff. Seems like it was/is PPG with Deere's label.

The paint you get at TSC is ok, but not all that good compared to what's available. It's NOT very UV resistant. Reds, blues, yellows and orange colors will "chalk" or start fading in 2 or 3 years. If you're putting forth much effort to restore or prepare whatever you're painting, that short lifespan isn't what I want. I've painted a few tractors with TSC's paint. Results were good at the moment, but 2 years later, the paint looked dead. (and YES, I used plenty of hardener)

Also, try any GOOD hardware store that sells "Rustoleum" products. They have a good industrial yellow enamel. We use it at work to paint scaffold handrails. (Ours comes from Home Depot usually)

Hmm.. I've used pretty much.. exclusively the 'cheap' TSC paint.. so far I've got about 6ys on some of the tractors with no chalking. I used hardner, and i put on a coat of good ag-soy based wax ( jd product) Every couple of years.

I do try to keep my tractors pulle dunder a pole barn, or at least under a tarp structure to keep them outta the direct light.

So far no chalking..yet...
