I sold my Kubota L185 this week and plan on delivery tomorrow or Saturday.

The only thing wrong with it is with the 3pt lift. I showed this to the buyer and I also told them if I had the time I would look at it and see if I could fix it.

The problem is when lifting the bush hog the 3 pt wants to bounce and you have to drop the implement quickly. Some times the bouncing is excessive. If I lift it very slow it is ok. The scrape blade is no problem.

Is it possible there is air in the lines?

There is also a filter located forward of the brake pedal. A decal shows that it should be removed and cleaned with fuel. There is a small plate with one bolt holding it in place. The actual hole where the filter is located is about 1" to 1 1/4" dia. Seems like a small filter and it is located in the housing. I am going to attempt to remove it tomorrow and clean it.

Any ideas to what the problem could be.

If your tractor has a lot of hours on it and that screen hasn't ever been cleaned, more than likely that is the problem. The pump can't get enough fluid. The fluid will be bad and need changing also.

I am having problems with my 3ph also. I found this post where this problem was described. This was not the original problem described but it was a side effect after attempts had been made to fix the original problem. In a nutshell, it was an obstruction related to the control valve. Here is the post. You will have to dig through to somewhere near the end of the post.

Based on the above post, I am getting ready to buy a WSM before I tackle my problem. I saw the manual I need listed at Messick's Farm Equipment website. They have it posted for cheaper than anywhere else on the web that I could find.

In my limited experience with hydraulics, as long as your fluid levels are correct, I would say that it is not air in the line.

Thanks for the reply Jerry.

The tractor has about 880 hours on it. I was hoping that it was just the screen/filter that needed cleaning and hope to check that out this afternoon.

I bought some UDT fluid the other day so I can change it.

The size of the hole/plate where the screen is located seems small but this is a small tractor.

I am wondering if the screen is attached to the plate or once the plate is removed you have to pull the sereen out. The plate looks to be flush mounted but there has to be some kind of seal behind the plate...?

Thanks Mgray, looks like I could have some kind of blockage or flow problem from the screen not being clear as Jerry said.

This is the way my filter looked liked after 900 of use without ever being cleaned. it caused hyd pump problem due to pump cavitation. If not addressed quick enough will cause pump damage at worst or seal damage at the minimum. I ended up overhauling my hyd pump (new seal kit). very easy task to do. I also attach the thread I started about the same problem.

Well I am alittle embarrassed to say but...I COULD NOT FIND THE HYDRAULIC FILTER.

It was not where the decal on the tractor said it was. I called the dealer on my cell and he was looking at the book showing where it was located and telling me on the phone. Still it was not where he said it should be.

I removed several cover plates, no filter, but the fulid was very clean.

I will go by the dealer and take a look at the repair manual I see if he and I were just not on the same page:eek:

I delivered the tractor to the buyer and told them if I could find where the heck the filter was I would come back over and clean it.

Follow two pipes coming off of your hyd pump. The smaller pipe is almost always the discharge pipe. The larger diameter is alway suction to the pump pipe. The intake screen is always on the suction side. follow that pipe all the way to the rear differential, there you'll find a threaded fitting and usually a banjo connection. Banjo connection has two o-ring one on either side.

By removing the banjo connection the screen can be removed by removing 4 to 5 screws. there will be a gasket that seal the screen to the differential. refer to my earlier pic and that shows you the assembly. By the way, clean oil by removing the dip stick is not at all "tell all" of the quality of oil. all the contamination are closer to the suction side , specially in the area of low velocity like the bottom floor of differential. I had to "vacu suck" the differential using a shop vac and a collection bottle.

I hope I shed enough light. Basic design is quite similar between brands.
