Need metric O-rings for most of the jacks now-a-days.
And those selections do not have all diameters and thicknesses.

HELLO TO ALL,
i have a friend that has a floor jack that the piston was
bent. he wanted to know if i could straighten it. i said,
not a good choice, make a new one is better. i looked at
the old part, and thought, 5/8in cr bar stock will do it, don't
even have to turn it down. got the old part home, and put
the mike on it. UGH!! 18MM. .629. so i turned it from 3/4in
stock, cut the old one off, and welded the new one on.
he says it is working now, after having sat in the corner of
the basement for 2 years. he says i can fix anything, well
almost anything. another freebee! oh well, i do a lot of those.
good luck to all.

Can anyone help me find a good source for information on repairing bottle jacks. I have about 4 or 5 that have been setting in the corner of my shed that I would like to repair myself. With new jack prices pretty reasonable, it's not cost effective to pay someone to repair them.

Have you tried filling them with jack oil?

You might take them apart to have a look. I pulled a 2' cherry picker jack apart to make it into a air over hydraulic unit, not much in there. I figured where I could drill into the piston area add the fittings I needed, bingo, I have a unit I can either use a air over hydraulic pump or just by hand as it was made.

One trick I have found to extend the life of a jack.
If it does not raise up much per stroke and the pump feels springy, it could be sucking in air on the upstroke of the handle around the seal where the pump shaft goes into the jack. A bit of cleaning and oil will help with this problem.
