Time to get this off my chest. Now first of I don't believe in ghosts, aliens, UFO'S, ET'S or any of that hocus pocus. So it was just a dream - Right?? My 1975 Dodge truck was show room fresh, bright & shinny. Kirby was young & sleek, bout the best looking dog you ever saw. The Dodge was our space craft, windows down arm out the window & Kirby sitting there proud, like these Egyptian statues. WE came to 3 small red suns in a triangle shape. As we pulled into the triangle a feeling of pease & tranquility came over me. Kirby in a human voice said, "Oh please Daddy can we stay here." I told her I would have to go back to earth & get us some food & water. I was on my way back when I woke up, tears in my eyes. Just A Dream - Right??? Last picture is the old truck & the steps she used to get in. - - -

She obviously meant a lot to you, she's still with you and you continue to miss her.

I think that you MIGHT try a human shampoo adding a diluted-into olive-oil Tea Tree Oil. If you do, test her first on a spot she cannot lick to see if she is allergic to it Be careful not to get it into her eyes. Mange is caused by an insect. I use homebrew tea tree oil shampoo on my own scalp to combat the dry itchies caused by eczema.. a very mild solution, less than 10% malalueca (tea tree oil) works for me if I use it about twice a month. I just mix it in with regular shampoo and do it in the shower. TTO will not mix with water, you must first mix it with an oil and then mix it with a shampoo I have never used it on a dog, tho. DO NOT USE IT AT 100%, it is far too strong. You can buy 100% tea tree oil essence really cheap at Walmart. About 15 bucks for a lifetime supply.TTO works when nothing else does but it sure stings the eyes if you get it in them. Maybe ask a vet first, tho, if you can find one that cares about your costs more than his profits. TTO has a wonky smell, but if it is not too strong it is inobtrusive. Insects of all kinds hate it.

I never see any reference in this thread to a medication called "Revolution" which is a liquid placed on a dogs cape behind the ears once per month. It completely solves flea, tick and worm problems, including heartworm but must be vet prescribed. Pricey stuff, but totally effective...I use it on my two dogs. No issues with it, but if your dog has already got heartworms you must have them dealt with by a vet first, before using Revolution. My place is all sand, which causes a lot of flea and worm issues in unmedicated dogs up here in the north. Heartworms are spread by mosquitoes and deer ticks. Deer tics are dangerous to humans for they spread the dreaded Lyme disease..and that is a very bad thing to get. It is a crippling affliction and very hard to diagnose or cure. Revolution is my mainline of defence against the deer tick coming in on the dogs. Revolution also stops mosquitoes from biting dogs. Honest!

Check it out, guys. Do yourselves and your dogs that favor.

You are 100% right. It took me a long time to be able to tell the dream story.
She was a dog like no other. She could think & reason almost like a human,
None of these things were taught to her, she did it all on her own.

Great baby sitter. Had a young boy & his mother live with me for a while. The boy liked to play sward fight. Sometimes he lost & fell down. She would go to him & check to see if he was hurt. After a few times she figured out he was playing & just watched. When he tried to go some place she though dangers to him, she would push him back until he would go the other way. He had a little sister than visited now & then, she treated her the same way.

She was loved by man & dog alike. I had a few people convinced she was a vicious killer. But in actually she didn't have a mean bone in her body. She was somewhat intimidating due to her size.
A neighbor hood dog ( Not a stray) use to come by most every day to visit us, quick HI to me then play with her for a while. A neighbor had a 100# pit bull his day was not complete unless he got to visit Kirby.
Never really needed a leash. Would put one on her when we went to town. But just let her drag it around. Even at the air port people wanted to play with her once they knew she was friendly.

She didn't like dopers or Mexicans & let them know it. Tried to give a guy (Doper?) a ride 1 time, she would not let him in the truck. He rode in the bed.
A Mexican irritated her 1 time, she jumped up & knocked him over, then followed him out of sight, making sure he didn't head for our house.

More later
Jim

This is my dog, Jones. He is a BMC (black mouth cur). He will hunt anything. Most times I don't even need a weapon. Here he is ready for deer season.

Suggest that dog owners research a dog food company called ACANA..out of Alberta Canada They sell through many high end pet shops..pricey at about 80 bucks Canadian per 40 Lb bag..but its is the best available. We feed it to our two dogs. Acana makes several kinds (about ten) with no grain and no other bad stuff in it. Our dogs like the "PACIFICA" variety, but it is all darn good stuff. I am so disgusted with the mainline companys that use Chinese fillers as a base..its is actually poisonous..and they know it..but it is relatively cheap..and cheap sells. Poor dogs!

And avoid DOGGIE treats which contain a lot of "beet pulp". Sugar Beet pulp is high in Oxalic acid..produces calcium oxalate bladder stones and causes kidney failure. Also avoid Chinese jerky treats, which contain poisonous levels of insecticide. I never buy anything that contains Chinese ingredients..but most name brand dog-food is made with Chinese ingredients. China has no effective insecticide-level controls in Agriculture, farmed fish, poultry, or livestock. Not many Chinese farmers follow pesticide dose level recommendations..They are mostly trying to curb crop losses from insects so they lace the poison to the crop at very heavy levels and care not about what it does to people or animals that eat it. The so-called Chinese government appears not to care either.

Check it out. What you save on buying cheap dog food will be far less than what you will spend on remediation treatment at the vet..and you may lose your pet through needless suffering to boot.

One surgery for bladder stones will cost more than a years feed bill for good dog food . Most so-called dog allergies problems, such as skin infections, are caused by inappropriate feed contents (cereal grains)...and a lot of kidney problems are caused by insecticide residues. Ditto, dog cancers.
