I gave up trying to identify raptors. So, I don't know what it is, I would be guessing. Is there an ornithologist in the house?

Hawk ident: This is a Red Shouldered Hawk.

The Red-shouldered Hawk is associated with the family of Buteo lineatus and generally breeds in North America and California and Mexico. These are the medium sized birds of prey.
Red shouldered hawk weigh around 550 g (1.2 lb) (19 oz).
The males are 43 – 58 cm (17 – 23 in) long.
The wingspan of an adult male measures about 96 cm (38 in).
Females are 48 – 61 cm (19 – 24 in) long.
An adult female weigh around 700 g (25 oz), with the wingspan of 105 cm (41 in).
These birds normally prey on small mammals, snakes, reptiles, amphibians, voles, mice, large insects, birds, lizards, and chipmunks.
Unlike other species, they are the migrant birds.

After looking at the website the TCreely posted (see post#7)
I'd say you know your raptors, and you are 100% correct.
Thanks for the link TC  I'll make good use of that one.
I have called up many raptors using a squealor call for Varmints, including some really huge owls at night. Now I will be able to tell what I'm looking at.

Yesterday when I was felling a tree, I heard a lot of vocal commotion above me. Crows were attacking a Hawk. I couldn't tell what type of hawk it was though. BTW, I enjoyed the pictures.

Say, aren't California and Mexico in North America?
