One thing that always puzzled me is the use of much wider front tires on tractors in Europe. Is this a personal preference or are soil conditions that much different that wider front tires are the solution?

Look at the Fendt 718 photo in the prior post to see the wider front tires.

Very clear photos by the way.

Hello, maybe it's to protect the soil.

If your tire is wider, then less pression is applied to the soil because it's weight isn't on a small area.
When the soil is wet, you also have a wider area touching the ground (without "hurting it too much, cf above) which is very useful when you have to move away from the mud.
That's my explanations :D

P.S. I found this graph on the net, I just changed some part in english.
