I've been reading your posts on improvements you have been making at your place. You are a busy man! The pond is roughly 3 acres. It started out as a small watering hole for cattle. It was completely drained, deepened and extended. It has a comma(,) shape to it. It holds water remarkably well, even in the hard droughts. When full, it measures about 2 ft deep in the shallow end down to roughly 15 feet in the deep end right off the pier. I try to keep the pond fertilized to keep its balance correct. The gentleman who owned the place before me is an excellent source of pond info and has helped me a bunch in maintaining it. The pond was stocked by me with bream, perch and mix breed bass (florida big mouth, northern striped) about 2.5 years ago. The cat were already there. I do not recall if bentonite was used to seal the pond. I do not believe it was. My wife and I just purchased some land adjoining our property and have talked about a smaller "holding" or breeding pond. Right now, though, we have more fish than we can eat! The pond is located perfectly b/c it is dead center of our 42 acres, at the lowest point. The property drains right to it. A good rain makes a big difference. I try to feed the fish on an irregular basis. If I do it too much, it makes fishing too "easy" and I do not want the fish relying on me for their main source of food. I try to feed them twice a week at random days., mainly in the evening. The pier is constructed of old telephone poles (non-creosote) 2x8 and 2x6's. It has a rope swing on one end...I plan on adding a zip chord soon that will carry you across the deep end (about an acre wide). I'll try to take some good pices of it this weekend for you.
