My lifting arm pivot that controls bucket tilt is not taking greese on one side and is very dry. I am thinking about heating it with a butane torch. I already took out the greese fitting, which was gummed up, and got that flowwing. i cleaned out the inside of the hole where the greese fitting goes, but can not get it going. What are the thoughts of the experts.

Have someone roll the tilt while you pump in the grease..

Tried that. Thanks for the thought. I would welcome anymore ideas.

Did you replace the zerk? I had one on my car that was bad from the factory. Something mangled on the inside but you would have never known...

If the zerk is truly flowing check the hole again--can you see the pivot bar at the bottom of the hole when you move the tilt? I have found that the hole seals right at the bottom, and is very difficult to clear. Try using light oil or even liquid wrench (or equal) to get it to flow. Also as already mentioned, try putting pressure on it with the grease gun and moving the tilt. When you get it to take grease, it will need a lot--to try to flush as much of the rust out as possible. Good luck--sometimes these take a lot of work.

If the other side was a little difficult to get to take grease but finally did it might be that you can continue to pump grease in that side while someone curls and uncurles the pivot arm, that pin is probably such that some of the new grease will migrate over to the other side and help you get it going . It would be nice if you could have someone pump grease in the stuck zerk at the same time that you were doing this with a second grease gun. As youre curling and uncurling make sure you go from extreme to extreme movment with the pivot arm applying pressure on the gun at these locations. They make a gizmo that is used for forcing grease in fittings like this, I think you pump up pressure or atleast fill the gizmo with grease and when you put it on the zerk you strike the gizmo with a hammer, I think pabjoube mentioned this. Another thing that you might do try to force a thiner oil in the stuck fitting,to do this you would have to jury rig up something like this[ the hose that fits the zerk with the other end fitting an air tight container that is filled with the wd40 or the like then have another hose coming out of the container and plumbed into your aircompressor to supply air pressure on the container with the thin oil as this is going on work the curl back and forth] I have never had to go to that much extreme but that would be something that I would ponder if I had that need. If you do jury rig up something to do this your safety would be your own responsibility.

If the other ideas don't work, there is a tool ;

It's available from a few places. Not cheap, but when you need one....

Try it with oil first, then see if you can get the grease going again.

All the best,

Peter

Your thought of heating it might work -- if it's clogged with dry, crusty grease. Heating it should melt that grease, and let the fresh grease push it out...

If you heat it, make sure you pump enough grease in to displace and force out all the "cooked grease" that was in there...

Well here is an update. Peter, I have one of those tools you are talking about. It didn't work unfortunatly. It just squirted out the side, even with the new fitting. I had called Terry and he said heating it should work. Well I tried that and got it flowing. Unfortunatly, the greese is coming out the other side. Now almost what ever I do the Greese will follow the path of least resistance. The bucket was creaking real bad before any of this and it was quite a bit better, but not fixed. I sprayed a lot of WD40 on the clogged side while it was hot and it finally stopped creaking. Anymore ideas?

1. Use it, grease it, use it, grease it... the frequent rotation on the shaft should help spread the grease where it needs to be, in addition to breaking down any that has built up...

2. Don't concern yourself with how much you're pumping out the other side, but instead try to get some idea of how much is remaining in there...

3. You might try putting a radiator hose clamp on the side where grease is coming out, clamping something on there to help block the flow, while trying to force the grease to the other side. You may need to use a strip of rubber or something and clamp it up as tight as you can, trying to block the flow of grease out of that side.

Just some thoughts that came quickly to mind. Glad to hear the heat worked -- at least somewhat...
