A quick little mod that put a smile on the wifes face

The lid on the 1850 weighs a ton. It really is VERY heavy, I guess PT feels that if you own this machine you are in good shape and not some fat filmmaker. The wife, who is a filmmaker but not fat is not strong. Lifting the lid tends to put her in a mood.

Anyway, here is my solution.

Good idea. I don't know what PT didn't make the filler neck a bit longer and protrude it through a hole in the lid. It is a pain to lift the lid just for refueling.

I would have said get a second wife to help the first one lift it. However, your idea is much better. How does she check the oil?

My wife wouldn't know the upside of a dipstick if you made big notes on it. Nope, she won't be checking the oil. As for the second wife, this is, and no, sticking with women on the side for the rest of my life. Keep a wife, get a girlfriend in whatever port you are in. The French have it right for sure on that one.
