Gentleman;

I have an opportunity to purchase a used Case 1838, model year is 1995, skid loader. It has a Kubota 4 cylinder diesel engine in it.
The hour meter shows 4000 hours, the machine looks good for the $.
Any body have a thoughts on the 1838, I did an intrernet seach and did not get much positive or negative.

Thanks

The 1838 is an 1840 with the 46-hp. Kubota engine. Case built this 1838 unit to compete more directly with Bobcat, who used the same engine. Bobcat had been winning competitive bids based on engine horsepower and price.

The 1840 used a 50-hp. CDC (Cummins 3.9 liter) engine which was torquier than the Kubota's engine 155 ft./lbs. vs 115 ft./lbs. There are plenty of 1840Case loaders that were sold and they were known as being very reliable...but I know little about the 1838's reputation.

I'd say that since that the basic skid steer is good and the engine has a good reputation, you'd be fine in making the purchase.
