It's a seller's market on those machines so I would buy it assuming everything appears to be in good shape.

Have you seen it in person? There are a lot of scams for these on the internet. Just be careful about it.

Something fishy here... I talked to the owner who sounds legit but he mentioned that around 200 hours he had to replace the whole transmission???? Anyone every heard of that? Saud he was moving a lot of snow and differential went and put a hole through the rear case?? Never heard of this on a 455...

any thoughts?

Get the serial # and go to a JD dealer and let them run a history on it.

Blowing a hole in the tranny while removing snow? On a 455? Sounds VERY strange to me as well. At just over 300 hours, it should be barely broken in, but I'd want to check it out carefully with the back ground info you got.
