My Cat 248 Shuts off after starting when you release the key shitch to the "run" position. It will run as long as you hold the key in the "start" position. After several attempts it will finally run. My question is wheather this is a switch problem or a bad fuel shut off solenoid?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a switch problem to me...Ive witnessed switch concerns on cats...Non like you describe however-let us know what fixes it!

I'd have to agree that it is the ignition switch that is bad. If it were the fuel selenoid it would crank but not run. Since it runs with you holding the key. Bad key switch.

Sincerely, Dirt

I was afraid of that. Switch costs $116.00. The solenoid is less. I still san't understand why it does not malfunction all the time. Someties it goes days without shutting off. Other days I have to crank it 15 or 20 times bebore it will keep running.
