One of the main areas of concern when buying premade hydraulic hose assemblies is the standard ends the hoses come with do not match the ends on the hose you are replacing.

this problem can be solved by using steel hydraulic adaptors.

the most common hose ends by far for farm equipment are 3/8 male npt and 1/2 npt. if the hose that needs replacing comes with these ends then you can just use the standard premade hydraulic hoses that come with these ends.

other common hose ends are:

1) 1/2 npt ends on 3/8 hose assembly
to convert your 3/8 hose to this end purchase a 3/8 female npt by 1/2 npt
male bushing. The female npt can be a swivel type in which case you do not need to use pipe thread tape or it can be solid type in which case you need to use pipe thread tape or you can just buy a premade 1/2 inch hose with 1/2 npt ends. If pressure on your system is 3000psi or less and the 1/2 hose is not too thick for your application this option will work.

2) #6 female jic end on 3/8 hose
to convert your 3/8 hose to this end purchase a 3/8 female npt by #6female jic adaptor. The female npt can be a swivel type in which case you do not need to use pipe thread tape or it can be solid type in which case you need to use pipe thread tape

3) #8 female jic end on 3/8 hose
to convert your 3/8 hose to this end purchase a 3/8 female npt by #8female jic adaptor. The female npt can be a swivel type in which case you do not need to use pipe thread tape or it can be solid type in which case you need to use pipe thread tape

4) #8 male oring boss end on 3/8 hose
to convert your 3/8 hose to this end purchase a 3/8 female npt by #8male oring boss adaptor. The female npt can be a swivel type in which case you do not need to use pipe thread tape or it can be solid type in which case you need to use pipe thread tape

5) John Deere oring flat seal hose ends

if you have John Deere equipment you may notice this hose end on some of your equipment. this hose end cannot be converted using standard premade hydraulic hoses with male npt ends YOU MUST USE premade female jic hoses to convert these hoses.
the fitting you use is a #6 male jic by #6 female oring face seal adaptor

My way of thinking is every adapter added to a hydraulic system (especially PIPE Thread!!) adds a potential leak path......:confused3:

This just makes a case for some little mouse that lives in Orlando, FL...

why not just make the right hose and move on.......

you will notice that every hose you have got on farm your equipment is connected to an adaptor. the only exceptions is if the manufacturer decides to use a male pipe swivel or male oring boss swivel hose fitting.

you cannot connect a hose without a swivel, you cannot connect a hose to anything if it comes with two solids, you need an adaptor.

I understand this but adding more adapters than needed just adds to the problems of keeping hyd systems leak free....

So you are saying that stocking premade hoses and adapters for all these conversions is what? ....Convenient?....Cost effective?....Maybe in Orlando...
