I have a friend with a 385 Case/IH tractor with about 1500 hours on it and he has owned it since new. It has the basic transmission with no power shuttle, etc. He tell me it acts like clutch is slipping in high range but doesn't in low range no matter how much it is loaded. The question is: is there anything in the transmission that could cause these symptoms before he tears into the clutch?

Sounds like worn clutch plates to me.

Does the clutch pedal have any free play? If not adjust linkage for 3/4 to 1 inch free play.

Hello all,
I have a CIH 385 and the tractor foes not move when clutch is released. I have adjusted the free play. This is a 4 x 4. Do you think it is the clutch? Is it difficult to replace? Many thanks.

Ontop of another very old tread.
Start your own thread.
It can only be your clutch.
