Hydraulic hammer as a woodsplitter?

Has anyone tried using a hydraulic hammer as a wood splitter? I think using an asphaly chisel in the hammer might work. Any comments?

The only hydraulic hammers that I have seen or have any experience with are the pile driver type use to drive posts/poles in the ground for fences, jetties, docks, and breakwater barriers. I think that the hammer may move to quick and the stroke won't be long enough to split the wood all the way through. It might work though, you never know until you try. I would look into a Splitfire 3 point hitch wood splitter.
The price is reasonable and the splitter works well.

I am amazed i was just thinking the same thing as i have some blocks way to big to lift to the splitter. I am planning on renting one to try so unless someone else has tried and it didnt work i will let you know.

Would the bit be long enough?

I'm thinking that once you crack it open, especially if your splitting Red Oak, you could just rotate the hammer chisel 90 degrees and spilt it again. It probably would not work as well on wood that doesn't crak open rather easily.
