First post on the fourm, lots a questions for you pro's here goes.
I have recently inherited/purchased from my Grandfathers estate an Internatial 574 row crop tractor and need to move it from South Carolina to Georgia. It would be about a 115 mile trip or about 2 hours. While I have trailered many loads including tractors it has always been with a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck (grew up on a farm), because my duramax was totaled about 3 months ago and I thought I didn't have a need for a 3/4 I recently purchased a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 V8 with heavy tow package rated at 9700 lbs.
From what research I have done the tractor weights 5150 lbs (diesel row crop) + a 6 ft bushhog not sure on it's weight, also not sure if there is any ballast in the tires, I know it has a few 50 lbs(?) weights on the front.
I am hoping to buy a 18' or 20' trailer with brakes to haul the tractor on. I would also get a weight distribution hitch. I could also borrow a 20' deck over trailer with a pintel hook attachment (used it many times with a 2500 HD), till I find a trailer.
I know my truck can pull this much weight, I would like ya'lls opionions on if this truck will safely be able to handle the tow moving the tractor and an occasional once a month tow locally? How much would a 18-20' trailer weight and is the pintel hook a good idea on a 1500? Also any advice on trailer size would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
