I am getting sick of trying to mow with my 100 series JD on my hilly terrain. Mostly because I can never get traction. So I am looking at biting the bullet and getting a 2012 x749. With the rebates and financing it looks like a smokin deal. My favorite JD dealer shot me a price of $11000 even on a new 2012 X749 with 54" deck. This seems like a good deal for what they usually get for this machine but I thought I would ask you guys. It would be a 54 " deck but i was also wondering if anyone knows if the 2013 decks are compatible with the 2012s?

I was told by two JD dealers that the new 2013 54" and 60" HC decks are not backwards compatible with the 2012 series GTs.

I think Deere is not offering an AWS 4WD 700 series tractor for 2013; so if that's the case and you want/need AWS 4WD, and the price is right for you...go for it.

Good advice imo, good price too I paid more than that when I bought mine.

They are offering 4wd and AWS in2013 but not with a Diesel engine. What have guys paid in the past for an X749 with only the deck?

I'm also interested in hearing what prices guys have been getting on a 2013 X739.

No diesel for a top of the line garden tractor tells me the EPA regulations are probably to blame. Once Yanmar and Deere figure out how to cram the extra hardware under the hood, then I'd bet the diesel reappears in 2014 or 2015.

Actually it is not an EPA issue. The diesel engine on these tractors are 24HP. Anything below the 25HP threshold does not require a particle filter yet. The issue here is weight from what the JD dealers are stating; my dealer states this also. The tractors need to be under 610kg or 1345lbs or the tractor will need a ROPS. JD does not want a ROPS on these tractors, so they need to figure out how get the diesel engine, AWS and AWD into the new series without compromising the strength of the frame or other components on the tractor without going over the weight limit. I am wondering if there is a new standard set by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE) for adding ROPS to smaller tractors. My dealer mentioned that it is a government regulation but I have not found this regulation yet for ROPS weight.

Below is a quick guide to NOx and when the engines have to be in compliance with the final Tier IV regulations. Any diesel engine that is below 25HP needed to be in NOx compliance as of 2008. All the larger diesel engines need to be in NOx compliance this year or next year. Here is the URL link if you would like to read the whole EPA "Clean Air Nonroad Diesel Rule" document - http://www.epa.gov/otaq/documents/nonroad-diesel/420f04032.pdf.

We just bought a 2012 X749 on 4-6-13 from the JD dealer. We were looking for 4WD and 4WS plus diesel. 2012 was the last year JD sold 4WS 4WD and diesel combination. They were asking $11,600.00 for the tractor only. We went with the 62" and I think the total was $13,000 and some change, As we were told the only deck that will not work is the 7 Iron and the reason is it will not clear the 4WS.
