Cab Regrets?

Looking at XR4040 and 46. Local dealer just emailed me some various quotes on models. While discussing options/approval with CFO she says 'get the cab', she cited how it would be safer if the kids wanted to ride. I understand that. And don't want a safety discussion to start up. I am looking for opinions from those with cabs that may have wished they didn't. Breaking windows or other damage moving brush, inability to adjust three point, view obstructed, or other regrets having it

I can make a list to the advantages for it, moving snow. Raking hay(allergies), keeping limbs out of face. Looking at extra 3k for cab, it just seems too big on these small tractors and looks to be in the the way.

Ok let's say I have it, Do the arm rest fold down to level with seat. Growing up both of the green machines we had the armrest would fold down making a large seat for us kids to ride along and learn the controls for our turn at driving in circles for hours on end.

Well I have never seen an armrest fold down, most fold up which is what mine do. I doubt you could get a buddy seat on that size tractor even if you wanted one, at best they would have to sit in your lap.

I bought my tractor because I wanted one with a cab, no regrets. I have ran under low hanging limbs a lot and they just shed off the cab (don't try this with large limbs, just go around them), at most they just fold back the mirrors that then make it hard to get the doors open.
I have never broken anything on my cab, but my BIL had a lower glass break in his right after he got it. They tried to say a rock from bush hogging broke it, but his argument was that would be impossible for a rock to come from the front of the tractor when slung from the bush hog and they agreed. Replace the lower glass and no other problems with the cab.
I bought mine for the summer heat, but it is also nice when a summer shower comes up and the heat is nice in the winter.
Most will come with a radio also if you want to sing along with your favorite singer.

No regrets from me purchasing a cabbed tractor.I have busted off a couple warning lights but that's a cheap fix.I snow-plow about 2 miles in the winter,did it with an open station for four years.

Here is a pict of a 1970's JD 4630 off of TractorHouse that shows the armrest folded. This is what I remember riding on and folding down when I was driving to have more room and just for the entertainment value as killing time for hours on end disking under wheat stubble.

That is nice I only wish 5030C would do that.

No regrets here at all, I am tickled pink with the cab on my 4046. The arm rests fold up. You mention inability to adjust the 3 pt with a cab, but I can. Open the rear window and you can reach the lever (at least my 6-1 frame can). I haven't felt like my view has been obstructed either. I have bad allergies and the cab has been great for mowing.

That's what my JD 4440 does. It's not really a buddy seat, but my wife rides along with me sometimes - it's pretty tight and she's a small person. Having a cab with AC sure is nice when you brush hog and run into a bunch of ragweed.

My XR3037HC is my first glass cabbed tractor (I had plenty of soft cab models). I made sure I got glass coverage insurance just in case (through CNH) I can't imagine those glass doors (or any glass) being cheap.
The armrests do not fold down flat (or level) with the seat. I really have not even used mine. Always folded up.
No regrets on the cab. Looking forward to plowing snow in the heated cab in a T shirt.
I also don't need to adjust the 3 pt. from the cab.
Also agree the cab is very nice in dusty conditions.
I like the HST for snow plowing and loader work.

The only regrets I hear about cab tractors is after guys drive around with the doors & windows open and break them, especially doors. If you buy a cabbed tractor, get A/C and use it. Shut the door before shifting out of neutral.

I blow snow and it is cold doing that.
Would never wish cabless on any one in this Canadian climate.
