Hi guys

I have a question on installing my building.
My manual that came with my building says to use butyl caulk or a good cartridge -type.
When we called the rep a few days ago to get a price on the caulk it was around $1,000 Wow I said so I am sure I can get it cheaper in town here but now the rep just called back today and says the building factory says not to use any type caulk.
Because after 5-10 years the caulk brakes down and starts to leak. Ever hear of this happening.

I will post pics as we build along here :)

Thanks Ron

Where are the calling for the caulk to be used?

Where the individual pieces connect. Total of 23 arches with 8 pieces per arch.

I put up a similar building as you, mine had 29 arches. got 5 up and Hurricane Katrina blew them down, I now have them all up, front and back on and about ready to install my doors. I did not put anything where the arches overlap each other and have had no leaks.

Sorry to hear about the hurricane.

I know here were we live back in 04 all the 4 storms hit here we were lucky just to be with out power for a over all 18 to 20 days in all 4 storms could of been much worse.

I think I will go with out the caulking and try it that way.
Just have to see how front / back walls stay up cause we got our building with a two arches then the front / back walls start. But my book says nothing about the install on that part.

Thanks for the info
Ron.

The metal build that we are putting up does not call for any sealer in the over laps either. I think this would make for big mess. With all the movement and adjusting that goes on, there is no way to keep it clean.

Back when I first started in autoglass we used butyl tape to seal windshields. It came on a roll, kind of felt like playdo. Something like that MIGHT work. But still think that will be a pain.

If you want to use a butyl tape sealant, check with a lumber yard that sells metal roofing. It should be under $5 for a roll. Depending on thickness of the tape, a roll will be 30'-45'. Not a lot of people use it, though recommended, so it might not be in stock. On hot days, it messy to work with. If you still use it and its hot out, do yourself a favor and keep it in a cooler with an ice pack. Otherwise its like fresh gum on a hot sidewalk.

Well the rain held off today and we were able to get up two arches and get 5 bolted on the ground.

Had a scissor lift for the high work 16' but it did not get here till 12:30 or 1:00.
The first arch was wild  I was a tad bit nervous.

But as we did the 2nd one it was a bit better not as much wobble and such.
Hope the rain holds off fri so we can do a few more and I am thankful that my guys helped me a lot today.

Heres a few pics of the install.
