We started moving some fill in front and around the garage. I am taking my tractor out tomorrow (Saturday) and move some more dirt and do some cleanup. I take some pics.
Septic also goes in next week as well as footings for a couple of retaining walls. so I should have lots more pics next week. |

No apology needed! I'm so jealous of where you are, but will get there soon!
Anxious to see the poured porch! Michael

David, Really enjoyed the thread! I've been seeing the title for awhile, but just read the whole thing this morning with a cup of coffee.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm boring people with trivial photos, etc. But your thread reminded me, that its thorough, informative threads like this that make the forum great! Your home and property are beautiful! We moved into our new house this past June, and went through a very similar process. We have many similarities to you. We're on a wooded lot with winter mountain views. One story rance with walkout basement. Pad is 36x60'. Slope is very similar to yours, we're in the foothills of Greenville County, SC. Even materials are the same, except that we ran out of money for brick! I'm envious of that one. I enjoyed sharing in your excitement this morning and look forward to the rest of your posts. Tony |

My next door neighbor put his septic tank in last spring, long before the house got underway good. A good rain cause the concrete tank to float up out of the ground. I would suggest waiting till the last convient moment to put it in, and then fill it with water immediately. You probably don't have floating problems around there, but with a new tank, and soft ground, it doesn't take much rain to float one.

Since you said the sheetrock guy is coming, made me think of a past story.
Wife and I met a good friend for a late dinner at a local 24hr breakfast place. I asked how the house he was building was going and he started telling me about how the electricians were giving him a hard time, plumbers were giving him a hard time, bank was giving him a fit, his father in law was on his case. Why??? That blasted sheet rock guy wouldn't answer his calls, wouldn't show up to finish the job, and he was holding everyone up, and everyone was taking it out on him! The guy in the booth behind us turned around and said "Mr. ___, the sheet rock guys will be at your house in the morning." The look on my friends face when he realized the guy in the next booth (behind him) was the sheetrock company owner, and for all he knew, we were perspective customers, and being turned away by bad word of mouth advertising. The did show up the next morning, with a full crew, and they sheetrocked a 4,000 square foot house before noon. Amazing to me, but the look on my buddy's face will go down in history! David from jax

Michael,
I will definitely take a few pics of the poured porch for you. I still can't decide if I should leave it natural and stain later, stain it when its poured, or stamp it in a brick, rock, or tile pattern. tony123, Thanks for contributing to my thread. Sometimes you think a thread is not very interesting if a lot of people don't reply but by the number of views somebody is looking. I know the area you live as I drive by there several times a year. I take different routes to West Union, SC. That is a beautiful area. If you get a chance take a picture of the back of your house and post it here so I can see what your pad looks like. Right now I plan on having my pad at the back 50 x 18 but may scale it back a bit. David from jax, Septic need to go in now as the plumbing is complete and a section of the pipe from the house to the septic will be under cement. With the heavy soil in this area I don't think I'll have to worry about it floating to the top. Besides you need to have rain for that...and we are drying up around here .Sheetrock guys should not be a problem as they showed up last week but the sheetrock did not. But if they don't show I'll hit every 24 hr breakfast place in town . |

David,
Hope I don't overwhelm your thread with my photos. Here's some shots that give perspective to our back pad. Our back pad ended up being about 65x32'. The septic field was the driving force for us. Otherwise, I would have kept trees closer to the house. Here's a side shot to show the step down grade ![]() An overall rear shot ![]() ![]() Here's one that shows the pad the best. The porch extends 16' from house and another 8' for the grilling deck and steps. I'm then left with about 6' of flat before the grade tapers off. ![]() Hope that helps some. |
