You are correct in your assumption that the 3 smaller openings will be stall doors. Those openings are four feet wide and will be a pretty stout Dutch Door. The main opening under the loft, will be a split slider. The opening that the trailer is backed up to in the above pictures will either be a 10 foot slider or two five foot swinging doors, I'm still undecided. I will also have 3 four foot sliders for stall doors that will open into the aisle way under the loft. I need to figure out how to hang the track for the slider under the loft doors. It won't have to be built all that heavy duty as those doors will just consist of a 2x6 frame and will be paneled with the cedar and trim. I plan on siding that wall last, so that will give me plenty of time to come up with something. My wife has been wanting a new front door on the house for a while now, neither of us care for the steel door the builder used. I may incorporate that into the barn somewhere, if we decide to replace it.

I managed to get one wall of siding completed this weekend. I'm very happy with how it's coming out, not bad for using seconds as siding. I'm ending up with just the right amount of boards to rip down for trim. Anyhow, here are some quick pictures of the "easy" wall.

Steel, man that looks great! What about termites? In my area they would tear up anything but pressure treated; not sure about the cedar.

Termites don't seem to be that big of a problem here. There are tons of cedar sided buildings and houses in this area. I lived in Florida for a time so understand your line of thought.

SteelDust - looks fantastic! If you don't mind...could you post a photo of the detail you used to cut around your rafters that extend beyond the siding? Keep up the great work and looking forward to more progress photo's!!! Jim H. |

Megado, here is the detail pic that you asked for, I'm still unsure exactly how I'm going to trim aall this out. I will have a trim board (to hide all mistakes) at the siding/OSB union. Beyond that, we'll have to see. I'm really considering closing in the soffit completely....
![]() Here is a couple more of where I'm at currently. Between the fairs, parades, picnics, etc that come this time of year, it seems I'll never get done. Oh...I also broke a 34 year streak today, I got stung by a wasp for the first time in my life. Wife and friends had given me the nickname the "wasp whisperer", I guess I lost that title today. The good news it that it barely swelled up, so at least now I know I'm not allergic to them. ![]() ![]()

I would leave the soffits open. Less worry about moisture buildup and critters getting in to build nests and all the problems that go along with that. I would trim it out like you were thinking. Of course, that is what I would do.

The barn looks amazing. The wood sizing reallly puts it over the top!!!!!
I don't understand how you are going to weatherproof your siding? The wood looks to be butted up to each other with nothing underneith it. What will keep water from going through the gaps or small spaces between the siding and onto your purlins? Eddie
