I was bringing in another 10 day supply of firewood into the garage today and happen to snap a picture of my setup. I purchased 20 of these baskets this fall at a liquidator facility for $10 each. Today I was able to measure their capacity since I loaded two of them from wood I stacked this spring before I bought them. They each hold a half a face cord with the pieces averaging about 20 inches in length. I have loaded tires and a 500 lb box on the back. This black locust being double row stacked and mounded in the basket is all that I would want to put my B7800 through. I had to bring this rack through the woods and down a pretty steep hill. Thank god for 4wd or this load will take you for a ride. Yes my rops was up and belt fastened. My third picture shows the pass thru door in my garage that I place the wood through directly to the fireplace.

The baskets look handy. Do you intend to stack and dry the wood in them too? What's that hanging from your barn, a bell?

Looks like something made from an old oxygen cylinder...

I agree, a bell?

Very nice system. Pass through doors are great to cut down on time spent handling wood.

Great job JJ. A beautiful place for sure. One thing I want to ask though: In the one picture the pallet of firewood looks to be in front of the door leading from the garage into the basement/living area? In case of fire this door isn't blocked is it?. Hey it's just the VFD in me. Each and everyone of us that burns wood/coal should go over our EDITH drills with our family members.

EDITH is an acronym for "exit drills in the home":D Most likely the web searches will produce some results or your local VFD will answer any questions you may have.

But hey JJ, A really great set up. I take my splitter in one trip then go back. After looking at your pics I may be able to do a one trip thingy;) .

elalexander,
The blocked door is not the entrance into the living area. It is an access to the back of our fireplace. The space was going to be wasted area since our fireplace is set at an angle inside. I figured why not put a door there when I drew up our blueprints. This way I can inspect the flue pipe and get to the mechanicals if need be.

You nailed the thingy from the barn. A bell made from an oxygen cylinder. My dad has a machine and fabricating shop and that was a Christmas gift one year. It will hum for a long time. I will get a better picture today possibly. I have started to split at the tree and stack it in the baskets to dry. I think with the 20 baskets, I will have enough to make it a season. Another great thing is that these baskets are also wire on the bottom and are stackable. Each basket is rated for 4000 pounds so they should never fail me.

I appreciate the compliments. I have gained a lot from this site and don't often get to contribute ideas back.
