3 Point conversion on A-C WD

Finally got around to installing the 2-point to 3 point hitch conversion kit on the old Allis-Chalmers WD. It was too easy, something must be wrong. I got the kit from OKtractor.com along with the intake/exhaust manifold. That was a little more difficult. 3 studs broke. Luckily, they came out with a gentle twist from vise-grips. If I knew that this is all there is to the 3 point conversion, I would have built it myself. I could have gotten some arms off of anything, links also, and welded the rest. But, I can't complain as the kit was only $340+ shipping. I was going to do hydraulic TNT, but the hydraulics on these old tractors is very limited. I may do something at a later date with it, but the tractor sees very limited use, maybe 10 hours a year. I'll try it out brush-hogging this summer.

The nice thing about this kit is that you can convert back to the snap couple hitch very easily if you want to.

I personally could never force myself to change these old tractors so I would buy implements designed for them. But now that I have tractors with 3pt hitches mostly it isn't as big an issue but I still miss my WD45 I never should have sold that tractor but it made a nice down payment on my TN65 along with the Ford 4000 I traded on it. Some day I will buy another WD45 (hopefully a diesel) as these tractors are so much fun to operate. Might have to locate a 3pt snap coupler plow for that WD45 diesel too

Do you still have the hose that leads from the air cleaner to the carb? I had to buy one from Agco for my WD45 years ago (as I said, I try to keep things original) and if I recall it cost me around $20 for that small piece of rubber.

This tractor, except for the 2 things I just did, is just the way I found it. I should have a piece of hose around here somewhere for the air filter. That's one thing I need to do before it leaves my shop, put the hose on and clean the filter out. I love this old tractor. It runs great. I did rebuild the magneto and carburetor. I had a hard time finding magneto parts until I dialed 1-800-MAGNETO. Believe it or not. They really know their mags. I gave the parts guy the mag type and he told me what it is off of and the parts to rebuild it. It took longer to give him my credit card info than it did to find the parts! I do need one new rear tire also, and a few other little trinkets. Maybe I'll take it to the Callicoon, N.Y. tractor parade in June.

Well, Callicoon is 5 hours away from me so I doubt I will see it in person but when you get a chance to take a picture please post it. I always enjoy seeing these old Allis Chalmers tractors.

If I ever get caught up on my work (is that even possible) I plan on pulling the Allis B I have in to start a simple restoration. The tractor did run when I parked it but it needs a new ring gear as well as a generator and bracket for the generator. I will also have to locate a hydraulic cylinder as it has the lift system there but it is missing pieces. Get it fixed up, painted up and mount the cultivator I have for it and take it to a couple of the local shows.

Andy, it is probably right in front of my face, but I can't see where the toplink attaches and pivots. Other than that, it looks like a very easy conversion and will make that tractor much more useful. Heck, you might get the hours up to 11-12 per year.

Yea, I'm hoping to hit maybe 20 hours.

There's a bright orange piece right in the middle of the rear end pumpkin cover. It's a U shaped piece with a bolt thru it. That's where the top link goes.

The bolts on the top links are a little tight. I'm going to remove them and install spacers. It bothers me having those brackets bend. All I need now is the pto shaft and rear carrier and it will be fully operational. The draft control works perfectly. I was concerned that the cylinders would leak after not being used for at least the past 15 years. I have to get some weight on it to be sure, but it looks good for now.
