So i needed to run some power to 3 or 4 diffrent locations around the yard.
Most under 50' runs but when you looked at all 3 or 4, it was quite a few feet of wire. Initially i thought about trenching and renting one, but really seems like overkill for such a project. The old guy next door has this modified diching/plow thing. (like a patato plow) that ive used before to cut some WIDE trenches about 10" deep, it works but is overkill for wire. (cuts a great drainage ditch though) I had heard about people riging middle busters to do this, and a real cable pulling machine is nothing more than a thin plate of steel that you attach the wire to. So when cutting the fence line the other day i noticed another impliment he had laying in the weeds. Figured if i could remove one of the 2 fingers, replace one of the bolts with an eye loop then icould pull some wire with it. So thats what i did. http://www.snjschmidt.com/pics/05-28...%20(Large).jpg figure it will pull about 8-10" deep. good enough for the short runs to the -well/pump house -chicken coupe -new above ground pool -back to the service pole for a nightlight http://www.snjschmidt.com/pics/05-28...%20(Large).jpg area's were i suspected roots i cut first with no wire as i ususally couldnt pull it in one pass, but other parts of the yard that were clean were easy to pull in one pass. http://www.snjschmidt.com/pics/05-28...%20(Large).jpg after i was done i ran back over the seam with the wheels and pushed it back down, min disturbance to the yard . in a week you shouldnt be able to tell i did anything in the first place.

Sounds like that worked really well, although the proof is in the continuity check.
I was thinking it would be crafty to fab up some kind of hollow ripper and then mount a spool holder above it. I think they use something similar for laying sprinkler system hose. My friend used to work for SpiderPlow, but that might be just a touch overkill for this application. |

You guys with minimal rocks like that have it easy, I wouldn't get 3' out here. But if I could, I'd copy the way kennyd did it. ![]() Last edited by Willl; 05-28-2008 at 10:42 PM. |

I've got 1 telephone wire that goes across my yard. It's down about 14 inches. I've cut it and had to fix too many times. Wtih the number of lines you're running you could learn to curse like I did. If I was doing it and want those lines there for many years I'd over kill and go a lot deeper than that tool will take your wire.

I've had coppying kennyds setup in mind for a while. I was going to solve botabill's issue by laying in conduit and fishing the wire through that - anyone tried that with a wider pipe on the back of the subsoiler?
