Default Barn Tear Down

I started to tear down and old barn that was on the property when I moved in. It was strictly animal use and would have taken too much to make it into a workshop. As I tore it down I found out that it would have been almost impossible to make it into a workshop.

I had already removed the second deck and roofing a few years back. Getting it to the ground was easy, but at the time I didn't have a fel so moving it to the dumpsters was a challenge. (sorry no photos). Wet sheet goods are bad enough, but add tar paper and shingles and each piece weighs a lot. As I was doing this alone I would take the sheet goods and cut them down into 1/3rds and then "load" them into the dumpster. When all was said and done I got all the roof and sides into one dumpster. It was neatly stacked from floor to almost the full. Then the project sat there a 3 or 4 years.

Here is what I started with.

I had already started to move thing around with just the FEL and decided I needed to make something to lift the left over sheet goods and 16' planks into the dumpster. Thanks to bindian (Brandi) I got an idea for some temporary forks made out of 4x4's. There we plenty from what I had already started to tear down.

Here is my second set. The first ones got broke when I got a tad aggressive and forgot I was dealing with wood not steel.

But these worked fine for moving the sheet goods, lifting stuff up and over the 7ft side of the dumpster and moving the stuff I was going to keep to a separate pile. There is no way I could moved the 6x6's around without these.

Here is what I have today. Still some cleanup to do,bushhog, till etc.

This would have been almost impossible without the forks. Thanks Brandi.
Oh as I was lifting the posts out of the ground I found out they were buried all of 18 inches. Only 4 out of the 20 or so posts had cement. I guess once you get a structure all tied together it'll stand up pretty well to the elements.

I bet you had a good time doing that, I know I would have. Those 4x4 forks are interesting.

It wasn't as bad as thought, so it was sort of fun. But with just one person who can lift about 80lbs max it was challenge. Not to mention I started with a handicap cause I had a tore muscle. I'm just glad it down and now I can move onto other projects. Like I stated in OP, I got the idea from a platform bindian had made. The forks work GREAT if you are applying downward force, but if you push on them from the bottom up, you're making new forks. They were cheap, cause they were lumber from the barn being torn down.
