Coreshot...really like the work you've done and I'd like to tap your knowledge. I too am a TBN "rookie" and I'm new to tractor ownership!
We too want to contruct a rock wall similar to what you have done. We live in Oregon and will not be able to use dimensional rock like you did, but what I wanted to ask is: --how you moved the rock (please dont tell me back hoe....I dont have one!) --what you used/method of creating the flat areas in your front and back yards. I see the pic of your box scaper...is that what you used? --when you built the wall in front, did you lay down a gravel base or right on the dirt?? When the wife is taking pics on the tractor, you have to, in some way, not act serious!!!

I response to your future plans I wanted to post a couple pics of what I did for a fire pit and patio area in my last home where we had to deal with a slight slope as well. We built the fire pit into the rock wall and it really turned out well. The down side is mowing the grass around it! Chris

Hey Chris, how ya doin'? When we did the front wall, I didn't have my Kubota yet. My brother (Daryl) would bring a rock over from the pile with his JD, and my other brother (Daryl) would lift it into place by hand. Not a very good technique if you are attached to your back, but it got the job done. I will use the Kub as mmuch as I can for the rear wall, probably just the FEL.The ground was leveled with a combination of BH and FEL. We just eyeballed it and got pretty close. In front, we placed the rock directly on the dirt. Out back, we will have about 12 inches of 3/4" minus gravel for drainage. I would recommend using gravel for any walls in the future. It is just alot easier to work with. Nice looking firepit you built, looks like the wall fit nice and tight. Here are a few updated pics, as I removed the rest of the porch- 2 days with a 60# jackhammer didn't do it, had to go buy a 16# sledge and invite some buddies over ![]() |

I have a question about the area in the rear of your home. Is there somewhere lower where the water can flow? I like a walk out basement as long as you have natural drainage. I can't see from your pictures where your collected water will drain. You may need a sump pump to remove the water other wise. Nice work on you yard.

It looks like progress is going to stop for awhile, as we just had our first snow of the year, and it's going to be muddy for awhile. |
