Avante-guard?......hmmmm, I do like Gargoyles, but "mid-evil" and "cabin" don't mix too well:laughing: Well, I wanted something different and yes they are kinda sentinel-like. I think once the rest of the rail is up they will blend more.

Well, I spent 4 hours walking and 'wheeling our entire 100ac looking for the proper sized center rail that had any kind of a sweep to it. Nada....all I got was exercise, so I settled on one that is pretty straight, but has some spalting and worm/beetle trails on the surface. Anyway, it's up and I am working on the bottom rail today, then onto the spokes.

I started on the porch, cutting all the posts at 78" and bracing them:

Rick,
I love the cedar railings. I hardly ever ask critical questions, but here is an important one. Have you checked with your insurance company on what type of railings would be considered "child proof"?
Again, I love how your work is turning out. I am mighty envious here.;)
hugs, Brandi

Great job on the railings. They look amazing!!!

I really like the notching. Your attention to detail and craftsmanship are what is making your home so inspiring.

How are you attaching the rails to the posts?

Eddie
