Things should get going in the next two weeks. Trusses arrived today. Poles and the rest of the shell are arriving on Thur. Metal follows on Monday or Tue. Builders show up late next week if they finish the current job early next week.

New Pallet Forks, We thought this would be the first use since the trusses were going to arrive via a roller bed. We were happy when the Spyder showed up. (Not sure of the correct name for the multi terrain fork lift.)

Day 2
5 guys working pretty much nonstop. These guys have done a great job. I am very impressed at how organized they are with staging material, everyone always picking up, helping out, getting set for the next stage and keeping material out of the way in mud. The truss company sent 18 trusses instead of the 9 called for on the plans set on 8' centers. There was some disagreement about who said or ordered what. The stamped plans said 8' centers were OK, the truss company wanted them doubled up on top of the posts. The builder wanted to go 4' and add 2 x 12's, keeping the trusses on top of the posts as well as filling in between them. The builder got his way in the end.
By the way the builder was impressed that my site was graded as well as it was. I told him where I was off and by how much in each corner. He lost the bet after a challenge. He set up a fancy laser, but in the end my little Stanley laser was just as good.

Looks great! Keep the pics coming. Todays weather should help melt off that snow.

We got a little rain and snow last night but it has melted.

By 11:30 all the trusses were set and most of the purlins.

As soon as the builder is done I will break down what I paid and how the options worked out. I don't know if it is fair to give the companies name, but I will post the builder and his number if anyone is interested. He has done buildings from out West, up to PA, down past SC so he will travel.

I'm not real familiar with the post and pole sleeves in the pics here. I can imagine what they do, but are you still using treated lumber? Are they plastic and what is the life span?

The life span is up in the 100's of years as best I can tell. My posts are treated as well. I think some people use them with laminated posts. They are not cheap, you will find them in the 25-35.00 dollar range per post. You can see how they are bolted and the sleeves help aid in preventing uplift. Easy install and peace of mind for me.

I've heard of those sleeves, never saw any used, and can't for the life of me figure why they'd be used - to trap moisture against the wood so it rots faster???? I don't understand the point. Do the ripples get 4 feet below the surface, otherwise 'here' the frost would just ratchet them out of the ground. In my soils, in my conditions, it seems counter productive to use such a thing.

Not being critical, just have not seen them, don't really understand what purpose they serve in your area?

They don't trap moisture. They are sealed at the end of the process if needed. The ones inside the building will never be exposed to moisture going in the sleeves. I will have 7 posts on the shed that will be somewhat exposed. I have wrapped the exposed tops until the roof is on to keep out moisture running down the posts. When I feel the posts are cured, I will seal them. You can drill weep holes and put in gravel. They are lag bolted and the ends expand out and give better resistance to up lift. I don't think that the frost line here is any issue. The building inspector liked what he saw as it was the first time they have been used in this area.
