I am finishing the inside of my new screen porch with cedar tongue-n-groove siding, Tight Knot Select (TKS). I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a good sealant to apply to the surface. I have used Cabot's "Austrialian Timber Oil" on the decking and I really like this product but, on cedar, it it really darkens the wood.

Does anyone know of a good sealant that doesn't darken the wood? The entire inside of this porch is sheltered, so water gain or getting wet is not a problem.

Check out Penefin Ultra Premium. I'd find a dealer and get some samples to try on a couple of scap boards before buying it in volume. From reports I've heard, you may want to stay away from the "Green" version, as it doesn't work as well as the traditional lineup.

We like Penofin- goes on easily and cleans up nicely with mineral spirits.

Just remember that most cedar will darken somewhat regardless of what you apply. Of course it will darken even if you don't put anything on it, unless it doesn't get exposed to sunlight.

Penofin is not inexpensive, but I think it's a good value.
