Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

I guess I am far enough along on my pole barn to start a thread about it. I didn't want to start the thread back when I actually started the project because I knew it was going to take me a long time to finish it. I travel around the country for my work and when I am home I have a beautiful 2 year old daughter to take care of.

I started clearing the building site last fall (2001) when we moved to this location. I didn't have my TC33D then, I hadn't even hoped or dreamed of getting a tractor at that point. I was using my 16.5 h.p. Weedeater lawn tractor with a 17 cubic foot trailer behind it to haul away the trees and brush that I cut down with my chainsaw. Unfortunately I didn't think to take any pictures until this March. I had my TC33D then and took some photos of the stumps that I was removing. I have made previous posts on TBN that relate to this pole barn project. Instead of me reposting all of those photos in this thread I will make links to some of those previous posts.

I don't have time to post all of the pictures right now so I will start with a few and add to that later.

This first picture is the earliest shot I have of the building site.

Another view of the building site. That is my neighbor's house and pole barn in the background.

Here is a picture of one of the stumps that I got out with my tractor. That is my house in the backgound. I had two previous threads on stump removal.

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

Here is a picture of the site right before I started digging holes. I removed all the stumps and dug and scraped away more topsoil than I care to remember. I had 260 yards of fill sand brought in for me to level out the area and bring it higher than the surrounding woods.

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

Here is a shot of the hole itself. I used a Bush Hog model 2102 Post Hole Digger. I had a 48" long by 18" wide double flight auger. I installed an 8" extension on the auger so I could dig a little deeper. I still had to dig out another 6" to 8" by hand to get to the depth I wanted.

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

Here is a shot of the 8" extension on the PHD. It cost like 60 bucks but it was worth it to me.

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

Ok, now I am ready to start building. I have five holes dug, 16" concrete cookies in the bottom of each hole, and the poles ready to be set in the holes.

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

Luckily the inspector likes me so the job didn't get shut down. Here is a picture of the first pole being set.
