Any tips on where one might purchase universal poly closure foam for metal roofing, online? Basically a roll of 1 thick poly foam, most are around 1 wide. I can find it on many sites, but none where I can actually order it. I'm putting a metal roof on an old barn and need to keep the snow and rain from getting under the ridge cap. I can get what I need from Home Depot, but it'll cost about $100. That's more than I feel I need to spend, seeing how I only spent $120 having all of the metal panels and ridge cap made. If that's what is comes to, fine. But, it seems that a lot of what I've found online is likely much cheaper, but I can't find anyplace that actually sells it online. The barn is 60' long, so I need 120' of it. Local lumber stores weren't much help.

are you talking about R-panel foam closure strips? You should have a metal roofing supply company close around somewhere.

No, no place close that I’m aware of. At least not that I haven’t called already. Local lumber stores can all get it, but no one seems to know any specs about it, cost, length, etc. And they didn’t seem interested in finding out.

DO you have to buy it on-line?

I ask, because I have actualyl found it, cheap, at both Home Depot and Lowes--a variety of profiles.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up finding an online foam tape supplier and got a case (6 rolls, each 40 long) for $54 after shipping. That should be enough to do both the barn and the garage later this summer. All for half of what I found at Home Depot. foamtapes.net for anyone who may be interested.

The closest Home Depot only had one particular profile that didn't match my metal. I tried that route first. It would have cost about $30 more, but I did like what they had better than what I ended up with. But, it's just a barn. They also had an expanding foam tape, but that was going to run over $100 for just the barn. Just seemed like too to for me.

Yep, I'll let you know. Home is where I ordered it from. They have quite a selection.

Just an update. The monsoons let up just enough to allow me to get the roofing up. The foam tape seemed to work well. It basically looks like weather stripping tape, but thicker. Went on easily and filled up the gap perfectly. Only time will tell about longevity, but I applied it so it wasn't exposed to the weather/sun.
