We've been in the process of trying to purchase a retirement home in NE Mississippi. Most of the places with over two acres came with a workshop/barn.

The one we are seriously looking at now has 4 workshops covering 6,000 sq ft.

With the largest, the red one, being fairly decent.

They all have concrete floor, the largest has an apartment in the back that runs the 40' width and is about 18' deep.

I was just trying to get some idea of value on what it might cost to build something like this, just for the concrete and metal buildings.

thanks

With a good concrete floor down here in north Texas you could probably build a shop for ~$15 a foot, depending on insulation, doors, etc.

I just got a quote for materials for a 2 story barn with loft, 24x72, including an 8'x72' lean to along one side, worked out to about $11/sf. That's material only, no labor, no concrete, but comparable construction style to what I see in your photos. I'd guess material for what you have would be about $6/sf, plus installation labor, excavating and concrete.

Well, new, what has happened? Have you moved yet? I am in Columbus now, a pretty good area. It is the country though, if you don't want to go to a bigger city, it is fine. Very friendly people here for sure! We looked at houses too, but decided to rent for a while to see how it goes.

I had a 40 x 80 x 14 at eaves built last year in East Arkansas (right accross the river) for $11 a sq ft last year.
20 x 40 is fully enclosed, insulated, on concrete. Other 60x 40 has a wall on back, open on front, posts set in concreted piers, floor is 6" of compacted gravel.
This cost included moving electrical service to a new pole and trenching in to new shop and my previous shop, about 50 yds buried, 100 amp service to both. Includes lighting and all electrical installed as well as hauling in fill dirt and prep for building site and the slab, extending a gravel road about 50 yds and putting a 30 x 20 parking pad of gravel in front of the building as well as gravel in front of open area for a turn around.
$11 sq ft was the "turn key" total cost for the project. Electrical was high because of moving service, building was lower by about the same amount since it wasn't all concrete; however, this should give you a good ball park.
We took 4 quotes on the project, we supplied the specs and it was a local contracter with the best bid. He bought the same building from one of the places who also quoted (Spirco in Memphis) and beat them by almost $2 a sq ft on his quote.

Well I apologize for not getting back to this thread.

Bought it. Bought another 66+ acres around it a few weeks later.

First pic - Red line shows total, green line shows the initial 3.5 acres.
Second pic shows the 5,500 square feet of shop (with apartment) on the left and the house on the right with a 600 sq ft carport and a large relatively new pool surrounded by a deck.
Third pic shows the carport and pool

Glad to know the buildings are worth about $10/sq ft.

I was a little concerned when the appraisal came in.
The appraiser appraised the 600 sq ft carport at $9,000.
And all the workshops, the pool and the decks at $14,000 TOTAL. Then separately on his paperwork he indicated the pool was worth about $3K and the decks about $1k. So I figure he valued the shops a $10K.

I'd sure like to trade that carport and $1K for another 5,000 sq ft of workshops w/ 12' ceilings and concrete floors!!

Interesting terrain, congrats. Banks & appraisers have lost their minds. My wife owns a real estate company here and she has lost deals because the appraisers are valuing property at pre 2000 prices.......what a pendulum swing.
