My wife, two kids and I have sold our suburban home and have purchased 10 acres. In approx 90 days we will break ground on our new home.

I am going to be Owner-Building the home, and have been working on the plans, process for approx the last 9 months.

I recently purchased an L3400 to help with tasks around the farm.

Our land is a 10 acres in Kansas City, used to be an old Christmas Tree farm. No home or anything ever built on it before.

The land requires of work. There are about 200 old down X-Mas trees I will need to clean up over time, and lots of down wood everywhere. I will need to build a road, and bring utilities to the home site.

I will use this thread to document the build process and will hopefully help someone else who wants to take on something like this themselves.

Here are some pics of the land from this past summer.

The previous owner grew X-Mas trees, and had a tree chipping business, thus the mounds of mulch everywhere. Mounds I will spread out and let rot into the earth overtime.

The first pic is looking at an overgrown cluster of trees - that is where the home will go, there is enough slope back and to the right for a walk out basement with a retaining wall on the left side.

The rest of the pics show the trail that leads to the back 40, then the last few pics are around the middle of the property, looking forward.

A few weeks ago I purchased a L3400. Here is the thread for that affair.

Today I got some quality seat time in. I have about 3 hours on her now. Today I smashed down a few of those mulch piles and used the box blade to move it all around. This area is about 200 feet behind and to the right of where the house will be.

Here is a link to the house plans.

The modified plans are below. We will eventually finish the basement, and in order to get the steel beams in the right places I had the engineer design them so they will flow into the walls and be hidden later on.

The plan is when the kids get older, they get to move into the basement and will have their own area, and we will have ours on the main floor.

I also attached the master site drawing.

I welcome feedback on the layout of the floor plans, or land.

Congratulations on your land and tractor purchase. Did a quick look at the house plans.
What is the space between the lanai and master suite? A hallway? Looks like wasted space... could have had some use as storage or small green house if glassed in... couldn't quite figure it out. The drawings are too detailed for quick browsing.

^ the space between the master and lanai is basically an outdoor breeze way between them so you can walk from one to the other. Remember the basement is a walkout, so it will be basically a deck.

Under it will be a large concrete slab for the outdoor patio off the basement.

Congrats on the new land!!!

I like your house plan but had a few questions. Why doe the kids bedrooms have such tiny doors?

Have you ever lived in a home with pocked doors? With all that empty space in the kids bathroom, why not use real doors?

Is the master bathroom vanity correct? It looks like two sinks right next to each other and no counter space, but all sorts of open area in the corner. You need as much counter space for a bathroom sink as you can get to keep the wife happy.

Eddie -

I redlined the plans myself, so they are not 100% perfect, these are not the final engineered plans.

The MB Bath will basically have an L desk/sink setup. I didnt draw it right on there, but the engineer did. I need to scan in his version. This one is 95% correct.

As far as the pocket doors, yes our old house had them and we really like them. The are 2'6" wide, which is ok for bedroom doors.

The two upstairs kids rooms will become guest rooms in a few years anyway. The rooms downstairs have full doors in them.

Keep it coming everyone! Thanks again.
