Aw, just joshing. I am truly interested! I have a ballast box full of curing concrete in my (currently) unheated work shop - temps stay around 40 when I don't have a fire going. Poured it last Friday.

This little side jaunt has been informative

Looks nice...I lined my forms with plastic sheeting and the concrete was real smooth although a corner got a little messed up. What does that weigh? Here is the one I made that weighs in at 1,000 lbs:

As I recall, the Hoover Dam has cooling pipes in it that were placed for the sole purpose of controlling curing temperature due to the project location's climate and the amount of heat generated by so much concrete curing at one time.

Exactly correct...the massive pours created so much heat it had to be removed or it would have damaged the concrete. The also had a huge ice machine to use ice in the mix instead of water to help keep the concrete temps within acceptable ranges.

Well, a stalled weather front on the east coast has dumped rain over a three day period. Luckily mostly at night, so the framers were able to work except for yesterday. With any luck, by the end of Saturday or Monday at the latest, all of the walls will be complete. Next week ... trusses if they can be delivered on time or the great room timbers (rafters, ridge and collar ties) if not. They would prefer to do the trusses so they have someplace to walk to facilitate the timbers.

Tom, a few questions for you if you don't mind. The neighbor who you had a few words with is he on the chain link fence side or the side with the split rail fence? Why I ask is it looks like some of the excess water is running into the yard with the split rail fence and didn't know if that neighbor had anything to say about it. It wouldn't bother me but I know you had a finicky neighbor!

Also just curious why the framers didn't skin the walls on the garage first before lifting them into place? No place to lay the wall down to build it without it being in the mud? And thanks for the photos, enjoying your build. Stanley

The neighbor with the issue is on the split rail side. The water over the past three days is the highest it has been and it is still below the cut of the top soil removal. There is one naturally low spot near the fence but it really did not encroach beyond the fence. Besides, his fence is 5' into our property anyway, so the water near the line is really on our property anyway. That issue and how to resolve is still being investigated with the title company.

As for the framer's not skinning the garage walls, I am not sure. It may have been more hassle since each wall was put up in sections and to stagger the seams would have meant that only 1-2 pieces per wall section would have gone up. This is speculation on my part but I will ask.

The garage is lowered as you can see and they did make the garage walls up on the main floor decking then lower them into place with the telehandler.

Now that you mention it, a photo viewer that can let you scroll through all the photos without having to go back to the main thread.

I'm surprised the local inspector didn't make you put up a silt fence. The inspectors here in Harford County Maryland are referred to as the "dirt police" because you can't move a shovel full of dirt without the fence.

We did have to contact the soil conservation unit of the county. We were under the threshold amount of disturbed soil so did not have to put one up.
