The gate posts are 5x5 and have been set 4' deep since 2006. The column footing is 12" deep and has been in place since 2008. The mfc recommended the 24x28x16 pad dimensions. I wanted to expand it 30x36 for added rigidity and an easier time placing the motor in the exact spot.

Finally got the opener installed. My wife bawked about the cost initially, but sometimes you just know deep down that she will like it. I havent heard a single complaint since the install. Plus we sleep just a bit more peacefully at night. I thought the solar panel was a bit large at 24"x24" but its necessary to charge the 24V system. I figured a strategically placed bush can all but make it disappear.
