there have been a few times I have thought of putting up some kind of storage building,

and ran across this posting on "homesteading today" New metal building got installed today. - Homesteading Today

I bet it is not any more than 16 gauge 2" square tubing for the frame of it,

any one have experience with the car ports that are made this way, do they leak? I would think the sheets ran the long way would hold water. I realized the screw are most likely on the upper side of the slope.

but looks like it would be a low cost building, as far as I know the car ports hold up OK, (or put it this way I have not heard of one collapsing under snow or wind).

I see there is no sealing foam on the ends, (light coming through on the ridges)

Any thoughts,

No experience. It looks marginal. If they doubled the number of frames and added some longitudinal bracing, it would look a lot sturdier.

Lots of those collapsed around here in the last couple of years. The snow sits on them and doesn't slide off because of the ridges. That being said, they're dirt cheap and I'd put one up in a heartbeat. They're often anchored down with mobile home anchors so they don't blow away.

yes I would think placing the roof sheet with the slope would be much better,

After a few years of weathering and rust, it will most likely lower your property taxes.

I have a building like that and they are cheap storage. Mine is uninsulated and the one thing I've noticed they sweat with the freezing and thawing. I park my tractors and jeep in it for the winter. They don't leak in the rain. If I remember correctly I have 30 year warranty on the metal. Its galvanized 2x2 with 14ga sheet metal. Mine came from a company in south eastern Ohio. I opted for taller walls to go to 10x8 garage doors. Mine is 24 wide and 21 deep. I absolutely think it was money well spent. Mine is anchored to the ground with 4ft rebar spikes that had washers welded on top. There is a dozen holding it down. I've not had any trouble with it shifting.

Another awesome thing about them is you don't have to have a perfectly level spot to set them. You can block up under the edge if need be to level it up. If you don't like the location of it you can always pull the pins and move it to a better spot.

I bought 1 without sides a year ago for wood storage. It has worked very well for that even with all the snow this winter it looks just like the day we had it put up. the water did worry me some but it seems to run off or out the ends just fine . = happy so far for the price ( Wisconsin )

I have an open side/end 24x26. She almost collapsed under a wet, heavy snow a few years ago. Had to hook a winch cable to it, and get the snow load off to save it. I've thought about getting another, because they're so inexpensive, but decided to just build a pole barn instead.
