Finally My Pole Barn/Workshop Has Started

Well after 3-4 years of having the money set aside for the pole barn/workshop and then having to use it for other things I am able to start.

I had to take around 26 trees out around where the shop will go. I don't want to build and then have a tree fall on it because this was all wood and the wind blows hard across the ridge.

I spent the last month or so grading with the box blade and FEL to get it level and direct water away from the building and still have a little grading to do. The reason it took several months was due to weather and only getting to work on Saturday.

I had around 18 stumps ground this past Saturday. A friend of mine grinds as a side business. He must be doing well since he now has two 50k + machines. 400 inches plus of stump grinding cost 400.00 with two machines working.

Here is a couple showing the difference in one area before and after. The drop off was about 2 foot where I had graded to the point I needed the stumps removed.

The shop will be 24 x 36 enclosed with 12 x 36 lean to and 10 ft roof extension like a covered porch. My wife want the porch look since it was so close to the house.

I know I will need bigger so we are planning to add on to the length in a year or two.

The walls will be 12 foot, fully concreted inside with covered porch and lean to concreted. The reason I am concreting under the lean to is I plan to enclose it at some point. I will have one 10 x 10 door and a man door. Also having it fully insulated during the build.

Stumps ground Saturday, post holes dug today. Inspection of holes tomorrow and if the weather is good post will be put in and concrete.

Thanks guys. The dried dirt is deceiving, its is just hiding the rocks. My skill has improved with the box blade.:laughing:

Was able to get most of the post in yesterday before the rain. Should have them concreted in today and maybe the roof trusses up.

Love a pole barn build!!!!

Where did you get your trusses? Are your wall purlins on the flat between your posts? I like those big 6x6 posts, but those purlins make me nervous. How did you attach them and what are you going to do about the sag in the middle? I'm a big believer in getting as much strength out of every aspect of a building and wall purlins are a big part of getting your sheer strength combined with your siding. What are you using for your exterior siding?
