Several, all used and abused.
Once again I find myself homeless. I've sold my Container Barn and have to be out by Sep 1.

This time around I'm going to build on a cement pad using traditional stick methods. To keep things interesting, I'm going to do some experimenting on the finish with some ideas I have.

The workshop will be 24 feet by 30 feet. There will be a two story home with 1,000 sq ft of living area, three bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. There will also be five full bathrooms on the side with a long covered porch.

First thing to do is figure out how much space the building will need and clear off the brush and topsoil.

The overall size of the building will be 48 feet by 48 feet.

There is a slight slope that I've cut down for drainage and will build up for the pad.

The guide sticks are outside the pad for now with the bottom orange line indicating the height I need to build up the pad.

The dirt is coming from a shooting position the US Army built in 1942 to allow soldiers to fire at the targets with less then a 2% angle of fire. The mounds are 600 feet long and 20 feet across at the top. This one was only 4 feet tall at the low side and 8 feet tall at the high side. It's just a baby compared to the others.

The dirt is incredible. Clean with good moisture for compaction. I need the dozer to break it up and build piles, then the loader can take over.

This is my Dad on the backhoe.

With the 2X10 sideboards, I can move six yards at a time. Every four loads, I'd spread the piles with the dozer to build up the pad about an inch or less at a time. 24 yards doesn't go very far!!!

Well Eddie, I must say you certainly go for the big projects. Do a fine job at 'em too. I vaguely remember you writing something several months ago about maybe selling the property with the container barn/home. From the later post it looks like you got an offer you couldn't refuse.

We all look forward to another picture project to drool over.

Regards,

Hey Eddie, Youve always struck me as quite an interesting guy,but know I'm beginning to really wonder. What are you going to do in 3 bedroom house with 6 1/2 baths? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifMan you must really have a stack of bathroom reading material. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks Dave,

The pad is finished.

When the weather clears up, hopefully by morning, I'll set the forms, then start measureing for my utilities.

Johnday,

True, I do have plenty of reading material, but like most everyone else, I can only read it at one place at a time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The home will have a full bath downstairs and a half bath upstairs. That's normal enough.

The other five bathrooms will be for my guests when I build the RV Park. I won't finish them off until I get my loan approved, but will just include the space in the building.

Technically, these bathrooms will be for my tent sites. Each one will have a toilet, sink with large counter area and a 3 ft by 4 ft shower. It will meet ADA requirements.

My theory is to build individual bathrooms for my guests that will allow total privacy.

Eddie; Ahh, I see now! That sounds like a good idea. Also sounds like your going to be pretty busy. Wish we were'nt thousands of miles apart, it sound a project I'd be interested in, at least to watch. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck, and keep the photos coming when you've the time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Eddie, looks like you are at it again. If I had not known about your RV park plan I would have been rather concerned about your need for five extra bathrooms and would have suggested a visit to the doctor. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

One thought that came to mind as I read your description of the new house was about the size. You are working on a long term plan for the property so I assume you plan to stay there. I would be planning a head for an expansion to the house in the future. A 1000 square feet can get pretty tight if you find yourself with a family there in the future. It can save a lot of future money if you plan now for a possible addition now.

Good luck and keep us posted.
