From my experience actually purchasing a dozer for this function, a bulldozer is not the ideal tool for turning forest into farmland. Topsoil scraping, soil compaction, and inability to pluck a stump out of the ground are major problems. That and the inability to stack the debris into tall piles for burning. An excavator is a more practical tool for the heavy stuff and often is cheaper due to ease of transport.

I agree with you. however, the 941 dozer with a 4 in 1 bucket is cheaper. I can pick up the stumps and brush and take them to a place where my land drops off and I will fill that hole in with stumps and debree. I agree that a dozer with a blade messes up the land. I have experienced that unfortunately from a time I hired someone to clear land for my home. I can not tell you how upset I was when I found these people took off all my topsoil and caused erosion you would not believe. What a Mess.
Thank you for your input. The dozer was much cheaper than the excavator. I would much rather use an excavator but the finances will not allow it.

| Re: First Serious Project - Clearing 1.5 Acres Hello my friends. Here are a few more pics of what I have been working on. I think you will see the slope I am working with from these pictures. I am also going to put a picture of the implements I have to use. I am looking for a 5 foot tiller that will help when I begin to start preparing it for planting.

| Re: First Serious Project - Clearing 1.5 Acres This is where I used part of my back yard in this project to give me a full two acres of garden space. I started to use this space plowed only then I realized that it would not be nearly enough space to grow and help people like I wanted. So I have cleared the blackberry patch that was about 10 feet tall and removed it. I used my chisel point plow to remove the roots and get it ready. Then I placed an ad in the paper where I gave the trees away to someone that would clear the large trees and stumps after I cleared the under brush. I realize there were alot of money in those trees but to do what I wanted to do... it was a sacrifice I was willing to take to help others. They are coming next week.

| Re: First Serious Project - Clearing 1.5 Acres The next few pictures are of the equipment I have available right now. Do you think I have the correct equipment? What other equipment do you suggest? I am looking for a 5 foot tiller that I know would be very helpful in what I am doing to help others. It will also help improve my property value I think by clearing the trees I think. Your thoughts and comments please. |
