Four to five feet is the best you can hope for where I built my cabin. One of the local guys who helped me with the electricity atually worked at the local electric co-op. He gave me a pipe sleeve and sledge hammer and told me to have at it. At about 5 feet it wouldn't go anymore and even started to bend. He then suggested we drive it the rest of the way in with a hacksaw. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

However, once we cut it off he recommended driving another one in about six feet away and connecting them with heavy copper ground wire. So that's what I did.
