Fitting portal axles for increased clearance

Last year we took in a Series III Land Rover whose owner wanted more ground clearance for working off-road. These pictures depict the work we did, which resulted in about 6 inches of extra clearance and really unbelievable off road performance.

Nice work, I do Jeeps and have made a few ford axle swaps.
As of now building a XJ for myself, it will have Ford 1 ton
Dana 60 axles under it along with a chopped top.

Were just getting started on this, lots of head scratching
simply because I've never done a XJ.
I'm also doing a frame upgrade rather than just the uni-body
and a full cage.

Gene, it looks like your project is a lot bigger than ours. We just swapped axles and suspension. You're doing the whole truck. Keep us posted how it goes

It that a home workshop where you're doing it??

Yes thats my home shop, I do all sorts of Jeep mods as a 2nd income.
Well not really a 2nd income, just away to pay for my toys /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wolfe1, I'm a little less than 2 hrs north of the Badlands
near the state line.
I do gears, cages, lifts, what ever....
Work has been slow on the Jeep lately, 6.5 acres of yard work also /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
But the plan is to have it on the trail by summer.

Nice job, did you find the volvo's to be cheaper than mog axles? I've got a pair of toyota axles for one of my suzuki's that should go in some day.
