Anyone else having a hard time this season?

Was doing good for a couple years, but had a bad time in the spring, got over it though, however this fall it's really bad. Feels like my eyes are being pushed outa me head..
O'course if it's just me I'll shut up and suffer like a man...;)

What do you use to comfortably cover your nose/mouth. I can't stand the paper filters,(although I use'em) been looking for a source for the tie on type used by doctors. Don't know if they'd be less uncomfortable ?? I also use bandana's but alot of particles can get under them, they are less irritating though.

Oh yeah! Finally got a cab tractor to stay enclosed. I know that doesn't help with chores that can't be done from inside a cab . . . weed eating, etc.

I hesitate to give medical advice since I ain't qualified, and everybody's different, but for me, antihistamines (the non-drowsy kinds) with a decongestant every day and nasal sprays keep me well.

Don't take it like a man! Take it like someone who has an illness to be treated!

I hear ya about the cab, been doing to much thinking about something that can't fit the budget yet ..:( The future may just have to go in that direction though, no way do I want to give up tractor related activities.;)
I use generic "Sudafed" every day, the doctor has me on "Astelin" nasal spray, also on "Prednisone" for too long now. Sure would hate to have to lay-off on the seat time, but may have to take a break. Like you said, got to treat the illness.
I'll push it a couple more weeks and see if whatever I'm allergic too dies as the weather gets cooler.

Maybe I'll invent a nasal filter that just fits in the schnooz..:D

Yikes on the prednisone---I've taken that a few times recently when I got into some Poison Ivy real bad....that stuff screws with me, it cures the poison ivy quick but the side effects are bad, stomach aches, can't sleep, eat way too much, weird moods...

But yes allergies are bad here this fall, I stay on Zyrtec year round but am taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) some too...but it makes me real sleepy...in fact I think I'll go take another nap:eek:

I really dislike prednisone and its side effects which can also include osteoporosis, vision impairment, insulin dependency, but it saved my life recently and is keeping me breathing as I titrate downwards. It does "energize" me- I get hypomanic and I have finally been able to get some serious tractor seat time the past two weeks. I wear one of those paper respirator masks as a precaution when mowing, rotary cutting, string and brush trimming, and moving dirt and manure due to that rare pneumonia  I got this Spring :(. I must be a pretty interesting sight driving down the road along my property on my tractor :p, but I am used to looking "funny". Jay :D

Afternoon Jay; I thought about your recent illness when I began this thread. Respitatory problems, lower and upper are covered here in tbn land now. I hope your prednisone titration reaches zero level soon.
About two years ago I had my third sinus opperation, lots of prednisone then!
New England is an allergen to me, lived in fla. and arizona for short periods and while in those two places, had almost no sinus issues.

How about comfortable face filters, any ideas ?

Sorry, irwin, I got on my medicine tirade and didn't answer your question. I've tried several, and had the most success with the 3M brand with the big ol' higgamadasher vent in the middle. Don't have any here now, or I'd give you a better description. The big box stores carry 'em. Pricey, but much better protection and cooler than the more flimsy do-dads.

Also, I seem to derive a benefit allergy-wise from using ear plugs. I like the ones best that are pliable enough to mold to the ear canal. I found I could work longer with ear plugs, too, because the work didn't seem as tiring/annoying.

Good luck. None of this allergy stuff is a bit of fun!

I appreciate your frustration...I used to laugh at people who got hay-fever and the like until i got told i had Rhinitis (Inflammination of the nasal cavitys and sinusses ) .I've been a farmer all my life and one day i got nose bleeds and could'nt breathe through the nose and my doc said get used to it ?
Now for 6 week periods i live on steroids ,So bad it gets to the point where i have to sleep in an arm chair and can't lay down for a couple of days ,Some nights you wake up choking ang sweating ...NIIIICE..?
I spend 70% of the time with total loss of breathing through the nose ...Very-Very annoying and frustrating and deeper affects like depression and lack of energy and occasional hypertension ...I guess i'm a mouth breather like my kids laugh about ..HA..HA .
We farm 1400 acres so run some fairly modern equipment with all the suggested stuff like charcoal filters and almost air tight cabs and air con and "NOTHING "works ,You only have to step out of the cab for a couple of minutes or servicing a dusty machine in the morning and you're suffering for the rest of the day ?

I'm lucky that pollen does not bother me. But I don't like it at the end of mowing or brush cutting when I'm coughing/spitting black goo. I bought a $35ish "gas" mask at the hardware store for some remodeling I was doing. Its the kind with two cylinders on the side.

I found that this thing was somewhat comfortable. I could actually work in the thing where as the cheap N95 masks really restricted my breathing. The N95's would leave me huffing and puffing just getting on/off the tractor.

The only downside with the "gas" mask is that I set a pretty sight wearing it, eye protection and worksaver hearing protection with the antennae on the side. :D:D:D

Later,
Dan

Mine had been doing good for a year or two, and now it just came back with a fury. I've found that the paper hosh dust masks don't help.

I 've been taking benadryl and claritin for a couple days waiting on my DR to get my prescrip alegra called in. the benadryl works great but knocks me out. the claritin i took yesterday.. didn't do didly squat.. except prevent me from taking another antihistamine for 24 hours... i get my alegra today after lunch.

Had been on zyrtec a while back but it quit working for me.
