We have (at present time) 7 dogs and 6 cats, all live inside in 2200 sq ft with us. The Dyson is the best money you will ever spend on a vacumn cleaner. You will see that all the others were a waist of money when you see what this thing will SUCK out of the carpet. My wife tells people it will suck dirt from China.

Eddie, out here in Arizona, The Home Depot sells them.

We have four large dogs, so we need a good vacuum, and the Dyson is indeed amazing. I bought my first vacuum cleaner forty years ago, and this Dyson is the best yet! We don't have the ball version though, we have the 14Telescopic Reach.

One more Dyson vote. We have the DC14 Animal and it actually stands a chance against our chocolate lab hair. I think we got it at Bed Bath & Beyond with the coupon.

To me the Dyson's look and feel a little flimsy, but it must be fine. We've never had any durability issues in over two years.

I was afraid to admit it, but we have three dogs of our own, three dogs in foster car, and four cats in foster care. Three cats on the third floor, six dogs on the first floor, and one cat in the basement

Don't like bringing in the shop vac on the hardwood floors

Appreciate the comments, looking for some disgruntled people, but haven't found any.

That guy with the English accent sure must be loaded.

There are 9 vacuums they tested that cost less that are rated higher at picking up pet hair. The Dyson vacuum does rate well for picking up loose dust and dirt on hard surfaces.
Re 'Consumer testing'. My brother was a carpet layer. He spent many, many years laying new carpet and pulling up old ones, so he really knew which carpets were best for particular situations. He also used to subscribe to the major consumer magazine over here. Then the magazine did a 'wear test' on carpets and came up with completely opposite results to his real world experience. He cancelled his subscription, figuring that if they got the carpet issue so wrong why should he trust them on anything else.

Your brother sounds a bit like me. Over 25 years ago, Consumer Reports did a comparison of 3 automobiles, and a report on their evaluation of some lawnmowers with such ridiculous conclusions in both of those reports that I cancelled my subscription and haven't paid any attention to anything they've done since.

I will say simply one thing.....the Dyson Vacuum will suck the chrome off of a bumper through a fifty foot garden hose ....I will say buy one. Best thing we ever did.

Does anyone know if the dyson has a motor by pass ?? There is a guy here that has a vaccum shop. He says to buy a vaccum with a motor by pass. If you pick up something (like a penny for example) it will by pass the motor & go straight to the holding system (bag, etc,.) So, the penny won't go through the motor 1 st. causing motor damage

We did the dyson thing when they first came to market, wasn't all that impressed. We replaced it last year with a Panasonic canister vac. We love it for the hard surface floors and carpet, I had an additional hose made to fit our central vac system as well. I will buy a Panasonic vac again when needed.

They work well and are light in weight but it's a real bugger to get to any clogs. Especially in the air pump/blower.
