Default Mauser K98

Anyone know what the metal disc on the stock of a Mauser K98 is for?

I believe it was the unit number on the disk.

On the K98 as DSF pointed out it is to take the bolt apart more like a donut than a disk. On a 96 there is a brass disk -- it is a ballistics table for the standard military 6.5 load
