Thus, the partially blocked fan would pull less amps since it was restricted. Restricted it would probably run longer to try to cool the area. Now, with more air flow it should run a shorter time to cool the area, but pull more amps. I wonder if that will balance out the same or if the run time is short enough to give you a savings.

I am in East Texas, too, so I understand the need for the unit to run more to control humidity, too.
Doubtful that this would make much difference because a 2.5 ton AC/Heatpump will probably have a 1/3 HP motor and a FLA of 2.7A and if the coil is clean/unblocked it would run much time.

Several stories in today's San Francisco Chronicle about the Utility company PG&E and the 500 million dollar mistake it made installing thousands of inferior smart meters that overcharged customers...

Local State Senator held hearings because his office received thousands of complaints from constituents with out-of-control utility bills once their meters were replaced with smart meters.

One farmer was charged $11,857 for running equipment that was never turned on....

You would think just a little quality control/testing testing would have found that problem easily. The bean counters at PG&E were probably ecstatic seeing that rise in projected revenue

It would be interesting to know who made that Meter..

There are not that many companies that make power meters...

GE, and Itron-(was Schlumberger Electricity) come to mind...

"Bakersfield is where the meters have been running the longest. Bakersfield is where PG&E first realized it had made a $500 million mistake, installing tens of thousands of inferior meters that would never live up to the promise"

Here's a couple of links...

PG&E's 'smart meters' make dumb mistakes

'Smart meters' or cunning PG&E thieves?

Customers say new PG&E meters not always smart
