Short story, Old filling comes out Saturday afternoon. Fellers I'll tell ya what, I have broken legs, arms, been drug by a horse, and the pain in a tooth is the worst pain I have had!

Try finding a Dentist on the weekend!!! We were able to call an "emergency Dental" office in Irving TX. no call back for lets see, 18 hrs, go figure..

If I was a Dentist I would sure have a look at a weekend short staff. lets see, about 2.5-3. million folks in the Dallas Ft worth metro-plex. I would pay 500 to get her out!

If my tractor had the right implement?? and a couple of bottles of Crown, it would be considered. I've tried all the "home remedies" with mixed results.

Almost as bad as when I had to sell my 2290 case..

I am about 2 hrs north of you, not a dentist BUT you bring the Crown and by the time we get them finished we both will be ready for that tooth to come out!!!

I am sorry for your pain but really glad to know that dental problems like that happen to others --Always on the WEEKEND ..I have never had it fail..and if not the weekend it happens when your dentist is on vacation for a week..Get some Ambisol at the drug store and paint it on the gum and tooth until you get it fixed..

I totally sympathize. Awhile back, I had chipped a tooth. I never bothered me, and I never bothered to have it looked at. Fast forward a few months........ it started aching all of a sudden. Same deal, started on a weekend. I ended up in the emergency room at the hospital. They don't do anything to it, but thankfully they gave me some good pain killers and an antiboitic to calm it down till I could get in to the dentist. You are absolutely right...... I've broken bones, my nose , smashed the end of my finger off, etc. All that stuff is a walk in the park compared to a bad toothache. I know doctors will frown on this advice, but perhaps you have a good friend, neighbor, or relative you could borrow a couple days' worth of pain meds from?

Don't know if you included this in your home remedies, but I think drug stores sell a temporary cavity packing kit. Could be worth a phone call to ask. Maybe if you get the nerves covered and Crown medicated, you will feel better.

Got the tooth packing kit, directions said not to use on painful tooth?? ookkk....

Right now, all is well with the world..found some "stray" Vicodin and Amoxicillin.. Hmmmm (cough) forgot I had it.

The Oragel only worked for a bit same with the Clove oil. Best was Sensodyne tooth paste, and some Novocain wash that happened to be laying around, I would get about 20-30 minutes of sleep with them.

I am sure I figured out how to solve all the problems in the middle east, TOOTHACHE bomb. That would do it. If y'all want to throw in with me, we could develop it, get it to market and it would be 100% effective..

I have had many toothaches and always was able to get some relief by packing the cavity with cotton and clove oil. You can use tiny pieces of gauze if the cavity is large enough. When they say not to use the packing on a painful tooth, I think they mean one that is infected. What you want to do is keep the exposed nerve away from air.

BTW: I have full dentures now, so no more toothaches.

My son has been tortured over the years by some of my bad puns. That one there takes the cake though.


My favorite thing to say about vicodin is "it doesn't really make the pain go away, I just don't care as much when I take these".

I just had to jump in. Besides loving my tractor, my day job is dentistry. Been doing it for 32 years, and have seen it all. All of these remedies are o.k. If you have a full blown tooth ache, there is no quick fix. First, get on an antibiotic (amoxycillin is best) Then load up with Advil or if you have some, a stronger pain med like Lor-tabs. Oil of cloves in a cotton pellet in the cavity may help. Get to a dentist ASAP.

I will stress that prevention is the key to minimizing these painful episodes. Get a regular dentist, one that you trust. Build a relationship with him, see him regularly for routine check-ups, as most problems can be predicted. Follow his advice! If he tells you that you need something fixed, do it. Don't wait until it blows up. Pay attention to little warning signs, such as a chip that you can feel with your tongue, sensitivity to temperature changes, pressure sensitivity, or whenever something just doesn't feel normal. Call you dentist when you notice any of these to let him check, or mention them at your routine visits. If you do this, you can almost eliminate these episodes of a major flare-up.

If you do have a major tooth-ache, then call your dentist. If you have a prior relationship with him and have done all of the above things, he will be much more likely to take care of you after hours or on a weekend. When a stranger calls me at home on a weekend, I am reluctant to help. First, I will not do anything major without an assitant. It just isn't safe. Nor will I phone in meds for someone I do not know or have as a patient (it isn't legal) Bottom line, I will gladly take care of my regular patients, but rarely will risk treating someone I have never heard of when my staff is not present. You would be surprised at how many people call me on Friday, saying they must be seen for a problem. When I ask "how long has it been bothering you?", they reply "since last week"

Just like tractors, do your routine maintenance. don't wait until it blows up to fix it!
