I finally got the patent on the building system TexasDon used to build his carport/garage. Now I'm working on a press release for the trade magazines.

I need the numbers on the lateral strength of fourteen gauge formed C channel or purlin 2" X 4".

I know pipe is strong/weak three hundred and sixty degrees while the purlin or channel is really strong one way and just strong another.

I would surely like to know the difference between 1 1/4 schedule forty pipe and the above purlin/formed channel.

Patent number is 7,707,794

Hmm, Here you can download an Excell spreadsheet with macros and calculate it as a straight beam for your exact application.

It is free for 30 days but 20Euro is not a bad price. I used it myself to calculate beam for a wooden pavilion.

Hope it helps
